What is Precious Metal Clay (PMC?)

Precious metal clay is a man-made clay containing minuscule silver particles in an organic binder. It was invented by Mitsubishi to reclaim leftover silver from their manufacturing processes.

To make your PMC item, clay is carefully rolled, shaped, sanded and smoothed into its finished shape. It is then fired it in a kiln at 1650 degrees fahrenheit for 2 hours. This 'sinters' the silver, burning away everything except the pure silver particles, which melt together into a solid mass. The piece is then tumbled in a jewellery tumbler with 'shot' - tiny stainless steel balls and pins that bounce off the silver items. This process further compacts the silver and strengthens the finished piece.

Polish your PMC item with the included silver polishing pad, or any other silver polish. Each Pin and Blossom PMC item comes with an anti-tarnish strip in a sealed bag for storage, to keep your silver looking bright and shiny and protected from harm.
